The educators' unions, led by teacher leader Humberto Montero from the National Independent Educators Front (Frenei), have demanded that Education Minister Lucy Molinar pay overdue salaries to thousands of teachers and urgently repair some schools in precarious conditions.

During the meeting held with Minister Molinar, Montero emphasized the importance of ensuring proper recognition of educators' efforts, not only in financial terms but also in terms of working conditions and educational infrastructure. Crucial topics for the education sector were addressed, such as pending payments and the situation of educational centers in Panama.

In the meeting, which included representatives from 23 teachers' unions, a document with 13 points was presented that outlines the main concerns and proposals of the education sector. Montero highlighted the need for a greater connection between educational policies and the reality on the ground, stressing that it is essential to work together to improve the conditions of the educational system.

Montero expressed his concern about the inadequate infrastructure of many schools in the country, pointing out the existence of "ranch schools," rented premises, and educational centers without computer labs or internet access. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe environment and basic resources for teachers and students, underlining the need to fulfill overdue payments to educators to preserve their economic stability and work performance.
