People's Party Criticizes Trump's Statements

The People's Party, a historic communist organization, described the recent statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his intention to regain control of the Panama Canal, as 'provocative and interventionist.' In a statement, the organization also criticized President José Raúl Mulino for his passive stance toward these statements, considering them an affront to national sovereignty.

According to the issued statement, Trump's rhetoric reflects an imperialist strategy motivated by internal tensions of the capitalist system and the emergence of developing economies. For the People's Party, Trump's position is not something new, but rather a manifestation of traditional U.S. interventionism backed by doctrines such as Manifest Destiny and the Monroe Doctrine.

The party criticized the attitude of the Panamanian government, pointing out that responses given with embarrassing arguments do not impact the interventionist policies of the United States. They emphasized the need for a firm and patriotic stance in defense of the country's sovereignty, rather than restricting themselves to clarifications about past treaties.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted the involvement of the 'financial oligarchy and the rentier bourgeoisie' in Panama in U.S. interventionism, accusing them of being historical accomplices. The lack of a nationalist stance from the current government in response to the imperialist threat was questioned.

The People's Party called upon all patriotic, democratic, and anti-imperialist forces in the country to a national meeting to establish a United Front for Action. The goal is to consolidate a new model of state that defends the sovereignty and self-determination of the Panamanian people, replacing the system imposed after the 1989 invasion.
