The president of Panama reaffirmed the sovereignty of the country and dismissed any kind of dispute over its control of the Panama Canal. In a recent statement, the president noted that the concern of the United States is not focused on the Panama Canal, but on the ports of the country.
"The concern of the United States is not centered on the Panama Canal, but on the ports of our country," mentioned Panama's Minister of Public Security, Rolando Mirones Mulino. This statement arises after rumors and speculations regarding the interest of the United States in controlling the Panama Canal.
Mulino emphasized that Panama has full control and sovereignty over its canal, one of the most important assets for the economy of the Central American nation. Despite the strategic relevance of the waterway, the focus of U.S. concerns is directed toward the Panamanian ports.
These statements seek to reassure the Panamanian population and the international community, reaffirming that the country maintains absolute control over the Panama Canal, with no disputes regarding it. It is important to highlight that the United States has maintained a historical interest in the region, but according to Mulino, this is not currently related to the canal.
