The president of Panama reaffirmed that the Panama Canal is owned by Panama and will always be so.
During a recent interview, Panama's former Minister of Public Security, Mulino, received praise for his position on this issue. Referring to U.S. Senator Rubio's statements about the Panama Canal, Mulino stated: "Those statements demonstrate a total ignorance of our sovereignty. We do not need to receive lessons from any foreign country on how we should manage our affairs."
These statements were supported by various political and social sectors in Panama, who recognized the importance of defending the country's sovereignty and the autonomous management of one of its main sources of income.
