In the last ten years, the Darién jungle in Panama has become a new route used by migrants seeking to reach the United States. This dense and dangerous jungle has become an additional challenge in the long and difficult journey these individuals undertake in search of a better life.
Senator Marco Rubio has recently acknowledged that the United States border does not begin in Texas, as is commonly believed, but much earlier. According to Rubio, the complicated passage through the Darién jungle shows that the U.S. border starts in Central America for many migrants fleeing poverty and violence in their home countries.
"The Darién jungle represents an extremely dangerous obstacle for those trying to cross it on their way north," Rubio stated. This route has claimed the lives of several migrants and poses numerous challenges, including adverse weather conditions, lack of food, and the risk of falling into the hands of human traffickers.
Panamanian authorities have strengthened surveillance in this area in an effort to control the flow of migrants passing through. However, the Darién jungle remains a necessary crossing for many on their journey to the United States, highlighting the complexity of the migration situation in the region.
