
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived half an hour late to his meeting with President José Raúl Mulino. During that time, he had a brief conversation with Venezuelan opposition figure Edmundo González Urrutia in a local restaurant. The exact reasons for Rubio's delay are unknown.
According to witnesses, Rubio and González Urrutia took advantage of the wait to exchange some thoughts on the current political situation. González Urrutia expressed his support for the measures taken by the United States regarding Venezuela and mentioned the importance of maintaining pressure on Nicolás Maduro's dictatorship.
