Martinelli Celebrates One Year in Nicaragua Embassy

Former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli has been residing in the Nicaraguan embassy for a year, where he has requested political asylum. Martinelli has been in this situation since August 11 of last year.

During this time, Martinelli has argued that he is a political persecuted person in Panama and that his life is at risk if he returns to the country. In response to the corruption accusations against him, the former president claims that he is the target of political persecution for ulterior motives.

In recent statements, Martinelli has reiterated his position that he is in the Nicaraguan embassy for security reasons and that he trusts his situation will be resolved soon. "I am here because I fear for my life and I know there is a conspiracy against me in Panama," said the former president.
