Capac Rejects Violence in Protest in Panama

The Panamanian Chamber of Construction condemns the acts of violence during the protest on February 12 and calls for respect and dialogue. It reaffirms its commitment to peace and security in the country.

The Panamanian Chamber of Construction (Capac) strongly condemns the acts of violence that occurred on February 12, 2025, during a protest related to the reforms of the organic law of the Social Security Fund. It is unacceptable that, under the pretext of a legitimate demonstration, actions were carried out that jeopardize the physical integrity of the National Police officers, who were assaulted while fulfilling their duty to maintain order and safety.

Capac, committed to the development of Panama, respect for institutions, and the progress of the country, has played a fundamental role in restoring order and guaranteeing free transit as a constitutional right of citizenship. As an organization dedicated to the advancement of the construction industry and the welfare of society, it calls for peace, reflection, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue.

The chamber urges to unite efforts to turn the present challenges into opportunities for growth and well-being through the use of appropriate channels to resolve differences. It reaffirms its commitment to peaceful coexistence, respect for legality, and responsible development of the construction sector in the country, as well as the protection of citizens and public safety.

It emphasizes that it has had no connection with the actions of the National Union of Construction Workers and Similar (Suntracs), which operates autonomously and independently. Capac urges the relevant authorities to investigate the incidents and take the necessary measures to prevent such situations from occurring again. We extend our congratulations to the National Police for their firm and efficient action in favor of the national interest.
