This Thursday, a hearing is held before a judge of guarantees for 74 construction workers detained after the disturbances on Avenida Balboa. The judicial session takes place at the Recreation and Training Center of the Social Security Fund in Las Cumbres, in the entrance area by the Lions Club.
Originally scheduled at the headquarters of the Accusatory Criminal System of Plaza Ágora, the change of location generated confusion and annoyance among those present, including SUNTRACS lawyers and relatives of the detainees. Although they mobilized to the initial site, the hearing took place in Las Cumbres.
From early on, vehicles transported the detained workers to the judicial venue. However, there were reported issues with access for defense lawyers, with some absent from the official lists, causing protests from the union. Several detainees were assigned to public defenders without prior notice, increasing tension on site.
Security in the area was reinforced with a large police contingent and crowd control units, who set up barriers to limit access. Despite the measures, shouts and insults from family members and union members demanding more transparency in the process were heard.
The Public Ministry will continue with the legal process in the coming days, while family members and SUNTRACS members await a definitive resolution.
