Charges Against Workers for Protests in Panama

The Public Ministry brought charges against several workers from the Unique Union of Construction Workers and Similar (Suntracs) for their alleged participation in violent protests that occurred on Balboa Avenue. According to information supplied by the National Police, the workers were conducting a demonstration when various acts of violence against private property and security agents began.

Among the charges presented by the Public Ministry are damage to private property, personal injuries, and resistance to authority. The defense attorneys for the implicated workers have categorically denied the accusations, arguing that the demonstrations were peaceful and that their clients are innocent of the charges brought against them.

The hearing to decide the precautionary measures for the accused Suntracs workers will take place next Sunday. Meanwhile, investigations are expected to continue to clarify what happened during the protests on Balboa Avenue and determine the responsibility of each of the parties involved.
