The Association of Teachers of Panama (ASOPROF) has called on the Panamanian population to participate in a national march on Thursday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m. The demonstration aims to defend social security in the country and strongly reject the official proposal to privatize the pension fund.
During the march, citizens are expected to express their concerns about the potential negative impact that the privatization of the pension fund could have on the population. ASOPROF has called for the unity of all sectors of society to protect such an important right as social security.
One of the representatives of the association stated: "It is essential that as a country we unite to ensure that social security remains a fundamental pillar in the lives of all Panamanians. The privatization of the pension fund is not the solution and could jeopardize the financial stability of many citizens."
The national march seeks to send a clear message to the authorities about the importance of keeping the social security system intact and finding solutions that strengthen that system without resorting to measures that could harm the population.
