Educators Protest Against CSS Reform Bill in Panama

In the capital of Panama, educators joined a massive march to protest against Bill 163, which proposes reforms to the Social Security Fund (CSS) and which they consider harmful to the interests of the country. Diogenes Sanchez, leader of the Association of Teachers of Panama (ASOPROF), highlighted that the demonstration seeks to send a clear message to the government of José Raúl Mulino to withdraw the aforementioned project as it is considered contrary to national interests.

The peaceful march headed towards the National Assembly of Deputies, where the protesters expressed their rejection of the bill presented by the government, arguing that it does not represent the true interests of the population. According to Sanchez, the legislative proposal promotes an unpopular calculation system that could reduce retirement pension amounts by up to 30%, which goes against the solidarity principle governing the CSS.

During the course of the demonstration, significant moments were captured that reflect the discontent of the citizenry towards the proposed reform of the Social Security Fund.
