Peaceful SUNTRACS Protests in Panama

The National Unified Union of Workers of Construction and Similar (SUNTRACS) will continue with pickets at various points in Panama in their request to reject Bill 163 and stop the parametric measures to the Social Security Fund (CSS). Despite the upcoming carnival, the protests, according to Saúl Méndez, general secretary of SUNTRACS, will be carried out peacefully in defense of the CSS's heritage.

Méndez stated: "We continue the mobilizations to defeat the neoliberal reforms to Panama's social security and confront the silver-haired of (Donald) Trump, in front of the Panama Canal." These actions focus on preventing the privatization of the pension fund of the CSS, an institution that belongs to the Panamanian people and is crucial for their well-being.

Various social organizations in Panama have announced plans for new mobilizations in order to prevent the approval of Law 163 and demand a genuine national dialogue that defends the CSS and guarantees the sustainability of its programs. The union of these groups seeks to protect the social and economic rights of citizens through joint and peaceful actions.
