Approval of CSS Reform Project in National Assembly

The National Assembly's plenary has moved to an illustrated session, approving various proposals on the pension reform project, focusing on retirement age.

The full sitting of deputies of the National Assembly, led by the heads of the parliamentary groups Jorge Herrera (Panamanian), Janine Prado (Prado), Ernesto Cedeño (MOCA), Javier Sucre (PRD), and the president Dana Castañeda, has approved that the Project has had sufficient discussion. After debating the third block of project 163, which reforms Law 51 of 2005 of the CSS, the Illustrated Hall was established. This measure restricts participation in the debate only to deputies on the waiting list, approximately 15, for a maximum of 30 minutes.

In this third block, topics such as Retirement Age and the pension model are addressed, on which more than 190 proposed amendments to project 163, which consists of about 202 articles, have been presented. The Illustrated Hall is an important step in the discussion of the Social Security Fund project, which has generated intense debate among the different political sectors represented in the National Assembly.
