Julio Bayo Withdraws Appeal in Kidnapping Case

Julio Bayo's attorney requested to withdraw the appeal in his case, where he is accused of kidnapping and robbery. The court accepted the request.

In a hearing held at the facilities of the Accusatory Penal System Plaza Fortuna, the private defense attorney of the citizen Julio Bayo, 43 years old, requested the withdrawal of the appeal before the Superior Court of Appeals of the First Judicial District of Panama on Thursday, March 6.

The Court, composed of judges Jennifer Saavedra, Erick Belgrave, and Carlos Barragán, received the request from the private defense attorney, who announced the withdrawal of the appeal based on Article 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows parties to waive the appeals submitted by them.

In response to the request, the Superior Court of Appeals accepted the withdrawal of the requested appeal. It is worth mentioning that in a previous hearing, the guarantees judge of the province of West Panama had ordered the provisional detention of Julio Bayo, 43 years old, for the alleged commission of serious crimes to the detriment of the citizen Dayra Caicedo, 23 years old, who is currently missing.

In the hearing, the Public Ministry was represented by Humberto López and Yaurisel Morán from the Regional Prosecutor's Office of West Panama, while the defendant was defended by private attorney Roberto Moreno. Additionally, the victims' attorney, César Sánchez, also participated in the hearing.

The facts that gave rise to this criminal case date back to February 19 in the district of Vista Alegre, Arraiján, when the law student, Dayra Caicedo, was allegedly a victim of deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery, and illicit association upon arriving at her residence.

The private technical defense of Julio Bayo has decided to withdraw the appeal in the case of the student allegedly deprived of liberty, in a judicial process that continues its course in Panama.
