The businessman Juan Carlos López López has filed a lawsuit for defamation and slander against Mauricio Valenzuela and FOCO Panamá, a digital media backed by the corporate name Medios Digitales Transparente. The lawsuit was filed by JMC & Asociados, representing López López, and led by lawyer José María Castillo, who explained to the media that the legal action is framed as crimes against the honor of the individual, specifically in the modalities of slander and defamation.
In the documents submitted, it mentions that the reported crimes began on December 19, 2024, the date on which there was a direct violation of the honor and decorum of Juan Carlos López, continuing consistently until the filing of the lawsuit. According to Castillo, his client is an independent businessman with Sicarelle Holdings INC, a leading company in hospital cleaning and disinfection in the country, with more than 500 employees, and has been the subject of a defamatory campaign by FOCO Panamá.
The lawyer argues that it is necessary to correct these harmful practices, indicating that journalists should be the first interested in ensuring the truthfulness of the information they disseminate. Castillo also pointed out that there are groups on social media that spread false news and unjustly attack individuals, highlighting the importance of entities like CONAPE intervening to protect the integrity of communication professionals.
On the other hand, the lawyer expressed his confidence that the authorities will do their corresponding work, stating that it is just a matter of time to see results. The lawsuit filed against FOCO Panamá was detailed as a legal measure to defend the honor and reputation of businessman Juan Carlos López López, who has been affected by false information disseminated by this digital medium.
