The government of Panama announced on Thursday that it will insist on its "decisiveness" in protecting its "sovereignty."
In a statement following an armed incident involving security forces from Colombia in the border area between the two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama stated: "Our armed forces will continue to protect our sovereignty by maintaining control over the territory, as always."
The written statement mentions that military and police patrolled the area at the border.
"We want to appeal to the international community and suggest that, like any country, we will continue to defend our territory and sovereignty, taking all measures necessary to maintain peace and protect our citizens," the statement reads.
