The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama urges that political decisions in the country be made with responsibility, unity, maturity, commitment, and based on technical criteria. In its program "La Cámara Opina," it emphasizes the importance of seriously addressing critical situations such as the need to secure long-term water sources through water projects like Río Indio as a viable solution.
In this regard, Juan Arias, who leads this initiative, recognizes the relevance of current issues in Panama, such as the situation of the Social Security Fund, the future of the mine, and the urgency of the Río Indio project. The need to not obstruct important decisions and the importance of presenting constructive positions to address these issues clearly is emphasized.
The Chamber of Commerce proposes to sit at the table with seriousness and a sense of nation, highlighting that it has considered increasing the employer's contribution without privatizing the Social Security Fund. Regarding the mine, the existence of excavations is acknowledged, and it is suggested that the Panama Canal Authority may be a suitable institution to lead its resolution, given its experience and transparency over the years.
In addition to local issues, reference is made to the importance of international relations, especially with a new administration in the U.S. that redefines the global landscape. The need for clear and dynamic communication in line with current times is mentioned, as well as the importance of ensuring access to water for various uses in the country, including human consumption and the operation of the Panama Canal.
