The Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, expressed her concern about the negative impact of the work stoppages in the country. She pointed out that this strike movement does not respond to a legitimate cause and is significantly affecting job creation and the well-being of workers.
Muñoz emphasized that the lack of labor conflict is leading some companies to be forced to make layoffs or apply discounts, which has repercussions for those seeking employment and for those already employed. She highlighted that the construction sector, for example, has about 30,000 unemployed people and 33 infrastructure projects that could absorb that workforce, but the stoppages are preventing these job opportunities.
The minister also mentioned that the climate of uncertainty generated by the protests has led to the cancellation of new job opportunities, which directly affects Panamanian citizens. Moreover, she stressed the importance of continuing to generate job opportunities and reducing the unemployment rate in the country.
On the other hand, she informed about the creation of more than two thousand job positions throughout the country through the implementation of the new Community Justice law, which includes positions such as administrative secretaries, mediators, and conciliators. These opportunities can be consulted through the digital platform "Empleos Panamá", which is being restructured to expand its capacity and reach.
In this context, the minister called for dialogue and reflection, urging the need to work together to continue generating job opportunities and strengthening the labor market in Panama.
