Panamanian authorities are investigating the possible connection of a tanker ship with a fuel spill in the Bay of Panama. The vessel under suspicion is the Largo California, registered under the Marshall Islands.
The fuel spill was reported by local fishermen, who alerted authorities about the presence of a patch in the water. After a preliminary inspection, it was determined that the spill could be related to the passage of the tanker through the area.
According to authorities, analyses are being conducted to determine the composition of the spilled fuel and to establish with certainty if it comes from the Largo California. If the connection of the ship to the spill is confirmed, measures will be taken according to the current environmental legislation.
For their part, representatives of the Largo California have stated that they are fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation and have committed to clarifying the facts.
"We are committed to protecting the environment and are willing to cooperate in whatever is necessary to clarify this incident," stated the company owning the tanker.
