Rejection of Police Action at University of Panama

The University Ombudsman of the University of Panama expressed its strongest condemnation of the entry of motorized units of the National Police into the central campus of the institution. This action represents, according to the university ombudsman, lawyer Gilberto Marulanda, a public and flagrant violation of university autonomy, which is enshrined at the constitutional level.

In Marulanda's words, the actions of the National Police constitute a direct attack on the democratic freedoms and guarantees of the nation, established in the Political Constitution. Furthermore, he highlights that this intervention demonstrates an authoritative and dictatorial evolution on the part of state authorities and repressive agencies.

In an official statement, Marulanda stated: "Those responsible for this transgression of the constitutional order must face the legal consequences arising from this disgrace, as well as the condemnation of Panamanian society and history."

The University Ombudsman of the University of Panama categorically rejects the entry of the National Police onto the campus, considering it an affront to the autonomy of the institution.
