The United States Ambassador to Panama, Kevin Marino Cabrera, presented his diplomatic priorities in his first press conference in the country. He highlighted the importance of collaboration in border security and the fight against organized crime, mentioning the Canal Neutrality Treaty as the legal framework for this cooperation. He also defended the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries to combat drug trafficking and protect the Panama Canal.

Amidst criticism and protests in Panama against the agreement, Cabrera emphasized that the memorandum will strengthen cooperation against drug trafficking and ensure the protection of the Canal. In response to accusations of undermining national sovereignty, the ambassador indicated that there is misinformation about its content and that it was approved by the Panamanian government. Sectors such as educators, construction, professionals, and students have protested demanding the immediate repeal of the agreement.

Cabrera also addressed the deportations of citizens from the United States to Panama, responding that if they were deported, there was a process. There were complaints about expulsions without due process, but the ambassador reiterated that the laws are followed. Regarding future deportation flights, he did not confirm their scheduling, ensuring that any action will be coordinated with the Panamanian government.

The ambassador underscored the importance of protecting the Panama Canal and strengthening cybersecurity in the interoceanic route as a key objective. Additionally, he praised the Panamanian government for its exit from China's Belt and Road Initiative and the audit of Panama Ports Company. Cabrera stated that China is not a good ally for Panama or the region and emphasized binational security and the defense of the Memorandum of Understanding.
