Panamanian authorities have seized the tugboat Oceanic Tug, which was found carrying 13,508 kilograms of cocaine. The vessel, flagged in Tanzania, was reportedly traveling from Juradó, Buenaventura in Colombia, towards Mexico, creating a route to the United States. According to the prosecutor's office, the seized cargo has an estimated street value of $200 million. The tugboat was intercepted southeast of San José Island in the Pacific after its crew attempted to evade authorities. The crew, consisting of ten members from Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru, and Colombia, was arrested after a pursuit. The vessel was towed to a naval base in Arraiján for a search, during which 579 bags containing the suspected drugs were discovered.
