Director of Panama's Penitentiary System Participates in the Latin American Prison Systems Summit in Bogotá

Bogotá, Colombia. — The General Director of Panama's Penitentiary System, Jorge Torregroza, is participating in the First Latin American Prison Systems Summit, a crucial regional event taking place from November 11th to 13th in Bogotá, Colombia.
The event is organized by Colombia's National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC).
The summit brings together directors and representatives of penitentiary institutions from Latin America with the fundamental purpose of exchanging experiences and best practices that contribute to the modernization of regional penitentiary management.
Additionally, it aims to promote international cooperation and the adoption of common human rights standards within prison systems.
Strategic Objectives of the Summit
The Latin American Prison Systems Summit has defined strategic objectives aimed at addressing the region's current challenges:
• Combating Organized Crime: Designing joint strategies to counter transnational organized crime from within correctional facilities.
• Modernization and Cooperation: Fostering technical and operational exchange to improve prison administration and forge alliances to strengthen institutional capacities.
• Training and Human Rights: Coordinating regional training and capacity-building actions, aimed at promoting dynamic security and best practices, and implementing comprehensive social reintegration policies.
The participating countries in the Latin American Prison Systems Summit will share successful experiences in rehabilitation policies, technological innovation, human resource management, and judicial and prison cooperation mechanisms, with the aim of improving the quality of life for incarcerated individuals and the security of the region.
