Panama Distances Itself from Deputies' Trip to Taiwan

The Executive branch clarified that it has no connection whatsoever to the trip announced by a minority group of National Assembly deputies to Taiwan, stressing that the visit does not represent the official position of the Panamanian State or its foreign policy. According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit is exclusively the result of personal decisions and individual initiatives of some deputies, without approval or coordination with the Executive branch. 'Therefore, it does not represent the official position of the Panamanian State or its foreign policy,' the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified, reiterating that Panama's foreign policy is an exclusive power of the Executive branch, as established by the Constitution. Likewise, the Executive branch reaffirmed that it will continue to strengthen friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect with the People's Republic of China, in adherence to national interests and existing diplomatic commitments.
