Panama Sees Major Drug Seizures in Ports and Airport

Panamanian authorities have conducted major drug seizures in recent days. Several tons of illicit substances were confiscated from trucks, containers, and passenger luggage at seaports and Tocumen International Airport.

Last Thursday, for instance, at the Guabalá checkpoint in Chiriquí, 150 packages of suspected drugs were seized from a semi-truck traveling from Panama to San José, Costa Rica. At the airport terminal, the Prosecutor's Office for Drugs, along with security forces, seized 16 packages of suspected illicit substances hidden in the luggage of two foreign citizens. Furthermore, this past Tuesday, over 11 tons of drugs were confiscated on San José Island in the Pearl Archipelago by personnel from the National Aeronaval Service (SENAS). A significant amount of drugs is being moved through seaports, with seizures occurring both in Panama and in other countries whose cargo was destined for our nation. In another raid at a Pacific port, 118 packages of suspected illicit substances were seized from another container. Earlier, during a search and warrant operation at a Pacific port, officials from the prosecutor's office and security forces seized 63 rectangular packages of suspected illicit substances found in a container.
