The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office launched a major operation in Chiriquí province to review how community project funds were managed between 2019 and 2024. What began as simple inspections has turned into an operation involving several community boards in the province. Between November 18 and 21, prosecutors visited community boards in Guayabito, Paja de Sombrero, Jaramillo, Pedregal, Dolega, Los Anastacios, Tierras Altas, Tinajas, and Tijeras. The investigation aims to clarify whether there were irregularities in the use of funds allocated for community projects. This money comes from the state budget and, according to authorities, must benefit the general public. Prosecutors are reviewing documents, invoices, and contracts, searching for evidence of possible embezzlement harming the state. These funds, in theory, passed through the National Decentralization Authority (AND) and should have reached each community transparently. The Attorney General's Office reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and assured that it will continue to investigate until the situation is clarified. For local residents, these proceedings are a reminder that no one is above the law, and public resources must serve the citizens and not personal interests.
