A power struggle is underway within the Panameñista Party. Former Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso stated that the party can no longer be run by two or three people. She directly pointed to the current leadership, especially José Isabel Blandón. Moscoso asserts that the party has lost its essence and the credibility that once made it strong. 'Our party is the only one with a doctrine, but they threw it in the trash years ago. No one believes in this party, not even the Panameñistas,' she lamented with evident frustration. The former leader also expressed concern over the mass exodus of party members. 'It hurts me when people write to me saying: I resigned today. The Panameñista Party is not just doing poorly... it's in the worst shape it has ever been,' she added. She mentioned that around 100,000 supporters have left the party in the last year. The former president also sounded the alarm over the party's worst electoral performance in decades. 'We cannot repeat what just happened: an election with 4%. When I won, it was 44%,' she emphasized. Meanwhile, the President of the National Assembly and head of Nomination 2, Jorge Herrera, declared his resolve. 'If I lose, I'm not going anywhere... I'll stay as I always have.'
