Today, Balbina Herrera became the main figure of the day within the Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD), by winning the position of General Secretary, one of the most heavyweight posts within the collective. Her victory headed the list of the five positions that were elected this Sunday during the Extraordinary National Directorate. With the results already in hand and circulating among the members, the new structure of the CEN was defined as follows: Balbina Herrera – General Secretary, José Luis Fábrega – First Vice President, Jesenka Espinoza – Second Vice President, Raphael Buchanan – First Subsecretary, Arquesio Arias – Sixth Subsecretary. The election was held to fill five key vacancies within the party, amidst a process of internal reorganization that has kept the PRD in motion for weeks. The Electoral Tribunal accompanied the event to guarantee transparency, while the accredited directors went to vote early. In internal conversations, many are already beginning to talk about a new force within the party, a bloc that some call 'La Línea', which now occupies important spaces in the leadership of the CEN. For the party members, what was seen today was a necessary realignment after months of tensions, resignations and calls to renew the leadership.
