She stated that Planells, who had connections with politicians and judges, learned about the disqualification of former President Ricardo Martinelli a day before the official ruling was made. Planells consulted attorney González for his opinion on the Electoral Tribunal's (TE) decision to name Mulino as a presidential candidate. González responded that "time is of the essence." Planells also inquired about other lawyers who had promised to assist her. According to Karamañites, Planells had a direct line to María Eugenia López de Arias, the President of the Supreme Court. Furthermore, she claims that Carlos Ernesto González of the firm Morgan and Morgan provided her with the model for the unconstitutionality lawsuit. Karamañites also alleged that one of the funding sources for Foco was the extortion of money from politicians and companies under the guise of journalistic investigations known as "refritos," which involve finding old information and presenting it as current news.
