Former deputy and director of the Panamanian Institute of Sports (Pandeportes), Héctor Brands, was apprehended this Tuesday during an operation carried out by the Public Ministry (MP) in conjunction with the National Police.
During the operation, nine people were apprehended in raids carried out in Panama, West Panama, and Coclé.
Brands' lawyer, Pedro Meilán, expressed his surprise at what happened, as his client has voluntarily presented himself to the Public Prosecutor's Office to make himself available for the search of his home and cell phone.
Meilán also added that since the start of the investigation, he has not had access to Brands' file.
Brands is linked to the crimes of unjustified enrichment and money laundering.
The jurist explained that after the apprehension, the Public Ministry has 48 hours to present a judge of guarantees with the legality or otherwise of the apprehension. Subsequently, charges will be brought against him and precautionary measures will be discussed.
