The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, held her first high-level meeting upon arriving in Oslo, Norway, after nearly a year in hiding. The meeting took place early Thursday with Panama's President, José Raúl Mulino, whom Machado thanked for being the first international support she received. Machado indicated to President Mulino, who was accompanied by the First Lady, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, that her support and that of all Panama has been extraordinary for her and for all Venezuelans. "We are very grateful to the entire people of Panama and, of course, to President Mulino," she stated. "It is a common past and a common future," Machado manifested during her encounter with Mulino. "For us, and we are seeing it; all the countries of Latin America that live in democracy are resurfacing positively, and that is fabulous." This meeting took place early this Thursday with the President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, to whom she thanked for being the first support she received internationally. Machado reiterated that President Mulino was one of her first supporters "and now, when the whole world is supporting us, imagine what this means." The Panamanian president said that the prize Machado received will be a boost that will mark a before and after for Venezuela. "I am very happy and full of energy," expressed Machado after telling Mulino that she hopes to meet with him again very soon in Venezuela. "And now what María Corina has done is a recognition of all that," Mulino said upon seeing off the Nobel Peace laureate in Oslo. "Starting with the fact that our electoral records are in Panama, safeguarded. Those of us who have democracy are making a tremendous effort to always reinforce it, and we always have hope for a better life." "Latin America has a great future in democracy."
