University of Panama Establishes Commission for Doctorate in Law Program

The University of Panama has established a commission to develop a Doctorate in Law program with an emphasis on the Governance of Labor Relations. This program completes the cycle of academic offerings provided by the Inter-American School of Social Dialogue, Tripartism, and Conflict Resolution (EI-DiSTReC) and aims to offer a high-level academic program for professionals interested in the world of work. Regarding this, the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Jaime Gutiérrez, explained that the objective of this program is to train a broad group of professionals in labor relations, conflict resolution, social dialogue, and tripartism. It should be noted that the development of this program is carried out in conjunction with the International Labour Organization (ILO), within the framework of the collaboration Memorandum of Understanding signed between the ILO and the University of Panama. In this way, it has the technical support of the ILO's Regional Initiative for the strengthening of social dialogue, as well as specialists from the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean based in Lima, Peru, and the Subregional Office for Central America, Haiti, Panama, and the Dominican Republic based in San José, Costa Rica. The doctorate, like all the academic offerings of the School, has an international profile, as its teaching staff is composed of national and foreign academics and specialists, and will receive students from Panama and the Latin American region. This academic program will be offered in a hybrid mode, as a Research and Doctoral Thesis, with a duration of three years, will be governed by the norms of the University of Panama for this type of postgraduate studies, and will be open to people who already have a master's degree in the area. This event took place in the EI-DiSTReC Dialogue Room and featured the prominent participation of Doctors Pablo Arellano and Fernando García, both ILO officials and experts in the area, in addition to the EI-DiSTReC technical team.
