Popular Party Elects New President in Panama

Cirilo Salas elected as head of Panama's Popular Party. He highlighted the organization's 65 years and called for strengthening democratic values. José Caicedo was elected vice president.

On Saturday, the Popular Party elected Cirilo Salas as its new president, receiving 380 votes of support during the party's national congress. Salas highlighted the organization's 65 years in Panama, stating that it has contributed to the country's cleansing and democratization. He also advocated for strengthening democracy and faith in political parties, as they are 'the children of the people and know about sacrifices.' In turn, José Caicedo was elected vice president of the party. In his victory speech, Salas said, 'One cannot belong to such a noble organization as Christian Democracy, today the Popular Party, and want to undermine and destroy it from within.' He thanked the party delegates for their trust in the new leadership, promising to work for the party's welfare and create a favorable structure for 2029. Salas called on young people to join the project and emphasized that there were 'obstacles' to the convention that led to his victory. One of the first goals is to increase membership and address the needs of the Panamanian people. Caicedo stated that they will work on renewing the party and enhancing its credibility.
