The Minister of the Environment, Juan Carlos Navarro, indicated that the final results of the comprehensive audit of the copper mine will be published between April and May of next year so that society can learn about the management that has been given to the area since the start of operations of the Cobre Panamá company.
According to Navarro, the audit covers the 370 components requested by the Government, which include environmental management issues, operational efficiency, legal compliance, risk management, occupational safety and health, among others.
«Everything that is done with the audit and with the mine is public, everything will be done openly for the Panamanians and this disaster that the previous administrations left us will be faced by the Government,» he said.
Prior to the final delivery, the company must provide the authorities with three preliminary reports, the first one this month; the second in January 2026, and the last one before the second semester of the year begins.
Last week, the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (Mici) reported that the royalties from the export of copper concentrate will be used to finance the development of works in the districts of Donoso, Omar Torrijos Herrera and La Pintada.
It indicated that the documents will be available on the Ministry of the Environment's website so that citizens can inform themselves on the matter and stop falling for fake news.
The profits from the sale of this mineral for the Panamanian State total 29 million dollars.
