The President of the Republic announced that the Executive Branch will present a bill to comprehensively reform the current public contracting regime. During his weekly conference, the head of state reiterated his criticism of the current legal framework, stating that the current system generates delays, conflicts, and distortions in bidding processes. He indicated that the change of evaluation commissions in state institutions has been ordered as part of the measures to improve transparency and efficiency in contracting. The President stated that contracts and payments to companies linked to the handling of funds of dubious origin will be reviewed, and if necessary, they will be suspended. He explained that the objective of the reforms is to guarantee the proper use of public resources and to avoid practices that affect the execution of works and priority services. Finally, he expressed his expectation that the National Assembly will discuss the bill with seriousness, in order to have a more efficient and reliable Public Procurement Law.
