Alain Cedeño, a congressman from the Realizando Metas party, has declared his readiness to enter the presidential primaries if former president Ricardo Martinelli does not run. He highlighted his district’s significant support for José Raúl Mulino and stresses the need to break the notion that only the upper class can aspire to the presidency.
Cedeño also emphasized that the country needs new leadership and that the idea that only the upper class can run for president must end. He said he has the “ability to lead the country for the benefit of the people.”
The congressman noted that many major parties in Panama must hold primaries and that some candidates lack sufficient votes to become president. He mentioned that the Alianza party contributed 9,000 votes to the total.
“I was the one who gave the most votes for Mulino to be president; in my district, 80,000 votes were cast, we won a seat in the legislature and a community board,” he said. “I have the ability to lead the country for the benefit of the people.”
