The president of Amupa, Nadine González, highlighted that supervision and accountability in local governments are fundamental to ensure transparency, efficiency, and legality in the management of public resources. The Comptroller General's Office, along with the Association of Municipalities of Panama (Amupa), has begun training sessions nationwide to explain to municipalities the new Manual on the Use and Management of Public Funds and Assets, published in the Official Gazette on December 10, 2025. “We agree with this guide and have supported the process so that the country's municipalities have full knowledge of it,” stated González. She added that this tool will allow for the verification of the correct use of funds and ensure that they are invested in what is truly needed to strengthen public trust. The objective of this initiative is to guarantee transparency in the use of public funds. The training sessions began on Monday, January 5, in the provinces of Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro, with the participation not only of the mayors but also of their work teams, which include treasurers and municipal accountants.
