Agreement Reached on Worker Payments After Strike in Panama

In Panama, an agreement was reached with the Ministry of Labor to pay over 200 employees of the operator company. Workers lifted the strike that had paralyzed waste collection in the San Miguelito district.

After more than an hour of talks, it was agreed to deposit benefits with the Ministry of Labor, which will act as a guarantor of payments. The agreement came after a halt in waste collection services in the district. Employees had been demanding the payment of their benefits for days and refused to return to work until they had concrete guarantees. Previous meetings with the company were ignored, which sparked the protest. The ministry will guarantee the funds, ensuring that no one is left without receiving what is due to them for the time worked before the company's departure. It met with union leadership and company representatives. They feared that by January 18, the last day of operations, the Colombian company would leave without fulfilling its obligations. The company Revisalud committed to depositing tomorrow in the Ministry of Labor the full payment of benefits for more than 200 workers. With this agreement, the workers lifted the strike. Many of these workers have been with the company for over 20 years. Waste collection service resumed immediately. Minister Jacqueline Muñoz personally appeared to mediate.
