Comptroller denies delays and defends contract processing for cleaning in San Miguelito

The Comptroller General's Office of the Republic of Panama has responded to public allegations of supposed delays in the processing of contracts related to waste collection in the district of San Miguelito, ensuring that there is no irregularity attributable to the institution.

According to the oversight entity, the contracts linked to this service did not enter in full on January 8, as has been publicly stated, but only two of the three documents were received that day at 3:50 p.m. at the Municipality's Oversight Office.

The formal and complete entry of the files into the main headquarters of the Comptroller's Office took place on January 13, 2026, from which date, the institution explained, the regular course of the audit process continues, in accordance with the established administrative deadlines.

The Comptroller's Office emphasized that document traceability and official records demonstrate strict compliance with legal times, ruling out any delay, retention, or irregularity in handling the process.

In the same statement, the entity recalled that the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority (AAUD) has the proper authorization to assume, as of January 19, 2026, the operational, administrative, and technical competence for the collection, transportation, and final disposal of solid waste in San Miguelito.

The Comptroller's Office warned that any statement suggesting the contrary "does not align with the facts," generates misinformation, and is irresponsible, especially when it comes from elected authorities.

The Comptroller General, Anel Flores, reiterated that the institution's function is to ensure that public resources are managed in accordance with the law and for the benefit of the State.
