The Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD) delivered credentials this Monday to the five new members who will complete the Transitional National Executive Committee (CEN), marking the formal start of the party's internal renewal process with a view to the 2029 general elections. The new members of the Transitional CEN are Balbina Herrera, who will assume the position of PRD general secretary; Raphael Buchanan, first subsecretary; José Luis Fábrega, first vice president; Jesenka Espinoza, second vice president; and Arquesio Arias, sixth subsecretary. After receiving her credential, Balbina Herrera assured that the PRD emerged strengthened from the internal process and reiterated a call for party unity, emphasizing that within the collective 'there are no winners or losers'. The new general secretary announced that the party's next steps will be the organization of the new CEN, the review of the statutes, and the preparation of the PRD to arrive cohesive to the 2029 electoral contest. During the internal campaign, consensus was evident among the different candidates on the need for a profound renewal of the PRD, following the resounding electoral defeat of May 2024, a result that forced the so-called 'Omar's party' to rethink its political strategy. Among the central issues debated during the internal process were the renewal of the party structure, the strengthening of equal participation in future internal elections, and the recovery of the collective's political protagonism on the national stage. Likewise, the PRD's grassroots have prioritized that the new CEN grant greater space to youth, as well as a firmer stance on social issues such as unemployment, the high cost of the basic basket, citizen insecurity, and deficiencies in the public health system, axes that must be integrated into the party's new political agenda.
