A group of retired National Police units staged a protest this Wednesday that included the closure for 10 minutes of all four lanes of the Inter-American Highway, at the height of Divisa, in demand of the non-compliance of the current government administration with the payment of the seniority bonus, a right established by law. The demonstration caused traffic disruptions and drew the attention of drivers and passersby traveling on this important artery of the country. The retired officers maintain that, despite the commitments made by the authorities, the payment corresponding to them after years of service has not yet been made. Retired Captain Juan Poveda, spokesman for the retired officers, warned that pressure actions could intensify if the promised disbursements are not materialized in the coming days. 'If the agreed-upon is not complied with, the measures will be increased, with better organization and the participation of a larger number of retirees and their family members,' he stated. During the protest, the retired police made a strong call to the Minister of Public Security, Frank Ábrego, to honor the signed agreements and comply with what the law establishes; otherwise, they warned, the conflict could escalate and become more complex. The protesters reiterated that their demand is not a privilege, but the recognition of an acquired right, so they expect a prompt response from the authorities to avoid new affectations to the citizenry and greater pressure actions at strategic points in the country.
