During his first visit to Latin America, Orthodox Patriarch Theodore II awarded Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino the Grand Cross of the Apostle Mark. This award recognizes his long-standing support and strengthens ties between Panama and the Greek Orthodox community.

Patriarch Theodore II awarded Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino the Grand Cross of the Apostle Mark in recognition of his institutional support for the Greek Orthodox Church. "May this decoration be placed upon you and always accompany you... Thank you for the love towards the Greek community residing in Panama... President Mulino, these are very difficult times that require strong leaders, and you are one of them, thank you for making your nation a strong nation," said His Beatitude Theodore II. During his first visit to Latin America, Orthodox Patriarch Theodore II highlighted the strengthening of interreligious dialogue, hospitality to the Greek community in Panama, and the commitment to universal Christian values, as well as the diplomatic and symbolic recognition offered by President Mulino's administration. President Mulino, for his part, stated that he felt honored by the distinction, which he considered the result of a decades-long relationship with the Greek community, an alliance that has stood the test of time. The recognition granted is an expression of mutual respect and fraternal cooperation between the Panamanian state and the Greek Orthodox Church, strengthening the historical, cultural, spiritual, and diplomatic ties between the Republic of Panama and the Orthodox world. The visit of His Beatitude takes place within the framework of the thirtieth anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Mexico, which also includes Central America, the Caribbean, Colombia, and Venezuela.
