Caicedo receives credentials and defends against media attacks and pressure

For the first time, César Caicedo, first vice president of the Popular Party, spoke about the situation linking him to his father, whom he said he loves very much and acknowledges the seriousness of his indictment. "That doesn't mean he's guilty, I only ask that due process be respected and that the law be followed, respecting the presumption of innocence, and I say this not only for his case, but at a national level," said Caicedo, who is only 32 years old. Caicedo, who received his credentials this Saturday along with members of the new board as first vice president of the political group that will run until 2030, also states that what happened with his father (Caicedo) was media-driven and there was a lot of pressure for him not to run, but he did what he believed in at the time. "I know they are accusing my father and it's delicate, and I ask every day that nothing happens to him," says Caicedo, adding that he is young and has the right to aspire. "I don't think that just because my father is indicted he is guilty, that's not the case, and that's why I didn't let the pressure make me drop out of something I believe I have the right to aspire to, otherwise I would have to watch all these years go by and if my father is innocent, what happens? he asks. Caicedo is the new figure on the board where there are veterans of a thousand battles such as: Rafael Pino Pinto, César Herrera, Bernardino Moreno (deputy of Parlasin) and said that he is not yet clear if he could go to the electoral contest in 2029. "First I must test the ground and see the possibilities, what the people say," and thus know what can happen in his more adult and experienced political career, he points out. Caicedo currently resides in San Miguelito.
