The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) activated its control and supervision mechanisms in response to the severity of the allegations in public complaints. As president of the Senniaf Board of Directors, Carles convened an extraordinary session on February 9, where concrete and immediately applicable measures were approved. The results will be presented to the board as part of institutional monitoring. Among the decisions was an order for a specialized technical inspection at the CAI de Tocumen, conducted between Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 February. Regarding adults with illnesses and disabilities who remain in the center, a comprehensive administrative review was also ordered in the Senniaf offices. The scandal over alleged irregularities at the Comprehensive Care Center (CAI) in Tocumen reached the Council of Cabinet through the Minister of Social Development, Beatriz Carles, who presented a detailed report on the immediate actions that will be implemented. The board approved specific actions to ensure they receive adequate care and analyze alternatives within the legal framework. Management, supervision, and decision-making processes related to the center's operation will be evaluated. The minister also held technical meetings with international organizations, including UNICEF, seeking to strengthen protection and supervision processes. Yesterday, Tuesday, Deputy Alexandra Brenes attempted to have the National Assembly summon Carles to the plenary session, but the proposal did not receive the necessary votes. "The center of this discussion should not be a political dispute, but the protection of children and adolescents," stated the head of Mides before the Cabinet. The objective was to verify what is happening inside the shelter, identify findings, and apply corrective measures in accordance with protection protocols.
