Judicial authorities have indicated that they are advancing investigations into corruption of minors, commercial sexual exploitation, and other conduct established in articles 179, 184, and 187 of the Penal Code, which carry prison sentences of between six and ten years.
These investigations arise "following complaints filed and also due to sexual content videos circulating on social media and digital platforms, which has led the National Public Prosecutor's Office to initiate investigations," stated the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor's Office) in a brief public statement.
The Primary Care Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office is also analyzing other sexual crime-related incidents reported during the carnival days to initiate the corresponding investigations, it added.
It also includes child pornography (article 184), which recorded 51 complaints in 2025, a 56% decrease from 2024, and acts of obscene or pornographic exhibitionism with minors (article 187) with two complaints, a 67% decrease from the previous year, according to Public Ministry statistics.
"The National Public Prosecutor's Office reiterates its commitment to ensuring the well-being of victims and preventing their revictimization, as well as bringing these sexual predators before the courts, whose conduct attacks decency, freedom, and sexual integrity, to the detriment of adult and minor persons," stated the official information.
Complaints of crimes against sexual freedom totaled 5,815 in 2025, a 5% decrease from the previous year.
The Prosecutor's Office of Panama reported this Wednesday that it is investigating videos spread on social media with sexual content involving minors, which would have been recorded in various parts of the country during the carnival.
Among these crimes is the corruption of minors (article 179), which registered 293 complaints, a 9% increase.
The carnival is the favorite celebration of Panamanians and a synonym for music, sun, water, and unrestrained behavior, during a few days when the country's beaches are especially crowded.
