Woman Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Human Trafficking in Panama

A person has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crime of human trafficking after deceiving two women into traveling to a nightclub in Kosovo with a job offer, where they were prostituted and forced to have sexual relations, the Public Ministry of Panama reported yesterday. The convicted woman, who was not identified, recruited and financed the two victims to travel to Kosovo through messages and calls on the social network WhatsApp, 'with deception to prostitute them since July 2023,' according to a Prosecutor's Office statement. She contacted them 'offering a job promise, earning a salary of 500 dollars a day, consisting of working in a nightclub, where they had to dance and serve drinks to customers.' The victims arrived in Kosovo on July 12, 2023, and were taken to the facilities of a nightclub, where their passports were withheld. The official information details that the two survivors received 'death threats' against them and their families, while being forced to have 'sexual relations with the clients who paid for their services, contrary to the job offer they had been made.' In addition, 'they were not allowed to leave said establishment to carry out activities other than sexual services,' concluded the Prosecutor's Office.
