Panama's Comptroller comments on salary situation in the Assembly

The Comptroller of the Republic, Anel Flores, informed that, according to the review conducted by the General Comptroller's Office, there has been no increase in salaries in the National Assembly, although there is an increase in the number of officials. "What they tell me is that they have hired people with lower salaries, but a little more people," expressed the comptroller, who stated that the Assembly is "doing well". At the same time, he pointed out that they maintain communication with the Board of Directors of the Assembly, considering it important for the institution's expenses to be aligned with the country's reality. Flores told TVN Noticias that "many shortcomings" have been identified, so he agrees with the proposal to reduce the salary of those who do not fulfill their functions, as established in a proposal to the Internal Regulation, which is in its first debate in the Credentials Committee. On the other hand, the official confirmed that the Comptroller's Office has requested a legal opinion from the Attorney General's Office on the issue of timekeeping, to act in accordance with the law. "Those who do not clock in, do not get paid." Flores also affirmed: "I don't think anyone can decide who clocks in and who doesn't; that is still a dilemma in this country, but well, we are asking the Attorney General of the Administration, Grettel Villalaz, for her opinion."
