SENADAP Scandal: Minister Convenes Emergency Meeting

Amidst strong internal tensions and events revealing a serious institutional crisis within the National Secretariat of Policies and Development for Afro-Panamanians -SENADAP-, the Minister of Mides has convened a meeting of the Secretariat's Board of Directors, which she chairs. The meeting is scheduled for this Thursday, March 12, at 2:00 PM, at the ministry's headquarters. A source from the Afro Observatory told La Verdad Panamá that it is expected that a series of recent events that significantly affect the institution's integrity will be addressed. It recently came to light that the Head of Human Resources, who is still in her position, usurped the functions of the General Director, Prof. Nolis Boris Góndola, by signing official documents and carrying out administrative procedures that seriously compromise this autonomous state institution. The questionable acts committed by the official, which also constitute crimes, were processed in several ministries, including Mides itself, and involve allegedly falsified academic documents to appoint a close relative to SENADAP with a monthly salary of $3,000. Today, it is expected that the General Director of the National Secretariat of Policies and Development for Afro-Panamanians, as a responsible public servant of the institution, will provide the corresponding explanations given the scope of the events and the possible legal implications they entail, even for himself personally.
