'Periquito' Arrested for Shooting Police Officer in Panama

In Panama, a man known as 'Periquito' has been arrested for allegedly shooting a police officer. The incident took place in the San Miguelito district. Police successfully apprehended the suspect and recovered the weapon.

Panama — 'Periquito', the individual accused of shooting a first-class police officer in the El Cucuy sector, Cerro Batea, in the district of San Miguelito, was apprehended this same Monday, shortly after the incident. Subcommissioner Javier Batista, head of the San Miguelito Police Zone, detailed that after the incident occurred, the suspect was pursued by officers, who managed to corner him inside a residence. After coordinating a search warrant with the Public Ministry, he was taken into custody. During the operation, police also managed to locate and seize a 9mm pistol and several cartridges, which will be analyzed to determine if it was the weapon used to shoot the officer in one of his legs. Batista stated that a police patrol had arrived in the area to put an end to an illegal parking lot when one of those present fired at the agents, injuring one of them. The suspect will be handed over to the Public Ministry for the judicial process in his case.
